My ears still bleed when Jaden is called “They”.
Shifting my prediction from “Blaire will start shit at the housewarming party by giving brochures to Violet” to “Blaire will start shit at the housewarming party by introducing all of the Poor Unenlightened Guests From Yonique to trans theories by having everyone watch Star Shifters.” This would be a horror story specifically due to the secondhand embarrassment but I’d like to see it.
Noted: Blaire’s dad is alive, and she’s comfortable entrusting him with her girlfriend’s PC, so the relationship between them must not be too strained. I wonder if we will learn he was a significant part of Blaire’s backstory. If I had to guess, I’d say Blaire’s mom was always pushing the idea of “good behavior is social currency so always help people and look sweet and kind” on her, while her dad doted on her in the background. Though I wouldn’t rule out the idea of him subtly criticizing or manipulating her somehow. (Blaire, like a lot of hardcore TRA women who do not identify as trans themselves, defaults to placating and “fawning” in response to male aggression – see Timothy. I wonder if that speaks to a less-than-healthy relationship with her dad? Or maybe her mom constantly seeks his approval without expecting much of him at all, and young Blaire internalized that that’s just how gender relations work?)

The obsession that people in the gender fandom have for (childrens) fiction is disturbingly spot on. Now fandom is great, it’s a fun hobby, a wonderful way to meet people, can lead to all sorts of creativity, so ofc I’m not shaming anyone – but holy SHIT do genderists take it too far. I remember some acquaintances of mine posting about how someone elses fanart or headcanons or ships or whatever had reduced them to tears because it was different from theirs. Crediting a kids cartoon or an anime character or something for their Trans Awakening, it doesn’t seem TOO far off…
I’m still so curious what “Star Shifters” is in real life. My first thought was steven universe but it didn’t make as much sense to me. (I haven’t watched that many shows so it’s hard for me to catch some of those references!)
Also I just wanted to add, I really love your art style. The colors are really harmonious and everything is just so pleasant to look at. I can tell you put a lot of work into fleshing out and designing your characters and I love it 🙂
i think jaden is going get in around 2 minutes into the first episode, if she makes it that far, and think it’s cute but not something she’s interested in. she’ll just think blaire likes cute things and be confused why blaire thinks this is a life changing revelation sort of show. it doesn’t seem to be remotely in jaden’s taste anyway, wasn’t jaden an emo in the alexis chapters? idk if she still has the emo taste, but star shifters just doesn’t seem to be something that will keep her attention long. or if it does, she’ll watch the whole show and the gendie revelations that blaire was hoping for will fly over her head
