IMHO the most poignant panel, other than the one where Blaire puts her foor in her mouth, is the first one, where we can see her evidently unhappy and disappointed expression.
It’s like she’s thinking “This person that I don’t know well but I spent the last few days making movies in my head about doesn’t behave in the way I hoped, and this is ruining my fantasy”. Or maybe she’s just in pain seeing the depth of Jaden’s denial. Both are plausible, I think.
On another note, I love Riles’ hair in this page. I hope that for the end of the chapter she’ll basically be Goku.
I don’t know what exactly Blaire is getting at but I’m more curious about who shut the lights off! The weather looked pretty unremarkable, so I doubt it was an accidental outage. Revenge of the AGPGang? Mood Lighting Extravaganza? Ari’s Glow-in-the-Dark Dance Special?

So when I draw I have a hard time getting facial expressions perfectly right. But YOU tho, have SKILLS OF AN ADVANCED ARTIST, so I know every facial expression you make is going to be very intentional. Blaire is freaking UPSET. Like she doesn’t have confused facial expressions, not a “huh not what I expected!” or “huh how interesting, I wonder what this means about Jaden’s Gender”. She is upset. She sees something wrong in what Jaden is saying, and that is a serious bummer. She thinks Jaden needs to be Corrected in some way…. If Jaden’s Gender Journey was self-led then Blaire would have a lot more possibility to being open to things she might not expect, and she would be willing to support the unexpected. She wouldn’t be making these upset faces.
Blaire is not unrealistic at all. I find I keep getting hit with “they/them” pronouns, and sometimes I want to ask the people doing this (some of who are very close friends) “Why are you using those pronouns for me?” but at the same time… I just CAN’T be bothered!! I don’t care about my own gender even half as much as the people around me.
There is so much going on in my life that is making Jaden extremely more relatable. I really don’t wanna get into too much personal stuff. but this Gender Thing is just one thing that’s really kicked off lately making her more relatable to me. Getting Gendered and just like…… not caring or wanting to be involved, because I’m busy living my life… SAME, Jaden… Same. of course jaden just plain doesn’t know about stuff, unlike me who has a better understanding about what’s happening to me and why… but its like… im a grown adult i don’t wanna play gender games. it feels so weird and immature, and I don’t like the people who keep approaching me like I’m made of glass and that I need the right words used on me or I’ll cry. It makes me feel like so much less of a person when I’m approached with that strange, desperate ally caution. Now that I’ve experienced that a few times personally I can find Blaire’s behaviors even more annoying.
Like really Blaire, there are people who have Real Problems who could benefit from your compassion. why you gotta waste time getting worked up over something Jaden does not see as a problem. sighs softly
ALSO I can imagine Kirie being like “hey so… Jaden…. notice how Riley’s flower is still pink. she didn’t walk out of the bathroom and request a white flower like someone joked about….
