It’s happening!!! Omg it’s happening!! Point of no return. Okay everybody, stay cool, stay cool. We have a confirmed, explicit, DEATH KNELL for the relationship. “I don’t trust Blaire.” She’s admitted it to herself!!!! Acceptance is the first step baby. Now you’ve gotta do what you think is right. Protect that little girl from homophobia the way you wish someone had protected you. You can do this!!!!

She actually thought it! I’ll be honest, I didn’t think she’d get there for another *scene* or two, never mind pages. Amazing job, Riley. Now you just have to figure out what to do about it.

The lighting. The hair flyaways. The expression in the first panel. The small fake grin that looks exactly like a “try to be tough” panel in a shounen manga. The contrast between her bashful look and the determination in her unspoken thoughts.

Riley went from “I should protect Faith” to “HOW am I going to protect her like I’ve resolved to?” in like ten pages and I am so excited to see where she takes it. It takes some people months or years to go from “this is actually evil” to “I’m the one that will deal with it” but that is NOT a struggle Riley has right now.

Confrontation time? Intervention time? Perhaps after the party? But it is coming soon.

Oh, Riley. Not surprising to me that it didn’t work this time. It’s different when it is sebody else’s well-being and comfort on the line, not just your own…

Riley went from “I’m not being a good ally” to “Keep Blaire Away From Faith”. Progress.

Riley: What do you mean I failed to fuck my way out of this?!

In all seriousness, loving the aggressiveness of her “So how am I gonna keep her the hell away from Faith?” She’s going to find a way to protect our babygirl from conversion therapy no matter what it takes, and I wish I could cheer her on in real life.

YESSSSS, I’m so glad! I know I was disappointed with Riley before but I’m so glad I waited – all is forgiven and forgotten. Her resolve in spite of her fear and uncertainty is truly impressive – I get the sense that we’re going to be seeing just how brave the seemingly-timid Riley can be, soon.

Man though, it does make my heart hurt a bit seeing how unaware and innocently happy Blaire is. In another world without gender crap and a lethal dose of female socialization she and Riley could’ve worked… Sadly not in this one, though. For the best of course, but still, damn ๐Ÿ™

Hi, new reader, just devoured the comic. It’s good. Lmk if there’s a way to support your work.

Man this moment just took me out. A real inflection point. And you know what’s crazy? It’s RILEY who is causing the untrustworthiness. No, hear me out! Blaire will do harm if she can, even though out of the best intentions, but – she’s not duplicitous about it! She’s completely straightforward about what she thinks and believes and plans to do! Meanwhile, RILEY is the one who is thinking one thing and doing another. For completely understandable reasons! I like that none of these characters are perfect! But Riley is the one who is introducing deceit into the relationship, and she can’t trust her girlfriend to do the right thing, because the behavior she would consider right from Blaire is a secret to Blaire. If Riley were honest, the consequences would be considerable, but – from everything we’ve seen, it would be because Blaire would straightforwardly break up with her, in her effort to do what is right. Again, it’s completely understandable why Riley isn’t willing to blow up her life like that. It’s just that – specific politics aside, it’s a great illustration of how we can fuck up our relationships by bringing into them the exact thing that we’re afraid of. Riley is in a relationship with love and affection but not trust – and it’s because she herself is not being trustworthy.
