“I’m an autistic cis butch lesbian. I can’t help but be reminded of back when I had peaked but “went back” for about a week. I was sort of like this. It’s a phenomenon present in cult survivors, where you revert back to that toxic mindset and may even become involved in the cult again. Also there is a serious amount of victim blaming here, saying it has to do with one’s own insecurities.
Obviously the trans community isn’t literally a cult (there isn’t really a cohesive leader). But snapping out of the TRA-mindset was honestly traumatic for me because my entire friend group was trans at the time. I had a mental breakdown, I barely ate for a week and I considered taking my own life. I’m still here though, two years later.
Anyway it’s very late where I am and I should definitely go to sleep but I wanted to say all this. This issue still deeply affects me, though I’m grateful I had this comic to get me through it. Thank you.
I’m genuinely impressed that much was legible! Origin: I was making this page print-ready and just needed something to overlay the other TWAW text that wouldn’t need to be super legible. I considered just a wall of jibberish, but then I remembered a very long comment I got on CH9P4. It felt very fitting as it was all about Riley.
I also agree it’s very victim-blamey, and was incredibly baffled with the logic behind the comment. If anything, making LB has really opened my eyes to just how differently people can perceive the same information.
I think it’s also very fair to liken trans activism to a cult. They don’t have a single leader no, but when looking at common TRA-group behaviour through the lense of the BITE scale, – which is used to rate cult-like behaviour – they match a lot of the descriptors.
I’m sorry to hear you’ve struggled to break out of the TRA-mindset. I can only imagine how dificult it would be when your support group is largely trans. Hoping that you’re in a better place now, and glad to hear LB has had a grounding effect on you!
Always a pleasure to hear from you, hope you sleep well 🥰🥰
