I literally dreamt of this update. I checked the last page before I went to sleep and I think this influenced my dreams. Only that in my dream, Chris knows they’re leaving, but after Shez was done with him he was too afraid of her to try and stop them.

Meriam takes the girls inside to play Our Lil Band (loud make believe) as Shez adjusts her shoes making sure they wont slip, her jaw clenched tight and a burning prickly sensation running all under her skin. Meanwhile, Chris drives while texting someone unknown on the phone with a smug face… “So easy it’s almost boring” he says to himself, putting down the device and accelerating.
After running as fast as she could towards a tall rock far away from the house, Shez does the Genki-Dama and throws the gargantuan energy ball as Ausmoid’s vehicle starts to look tiny and blurry on the horizon, deepfrying the predator and his stupid car in one swift merciless move.
In another part of the state, the diffused remains of the blast wave cause a coconut to drop, hitting Yamcha on the skull and killing him instantly (again).
Go go go go go go! I’m on the edge of my seat, I just *know* it’s not going to be that easy. There’s violence on the horizon. They’re going to be okay, they’re going to be okay, they’re okay in present time, but it’s not going to go smoothly, is it?
Also, I know in a lot of places men don’t get paternal leave, but I already have a low enough opinion of Chris to just assume he’s leaving for a week so he doesn’t have to deal with any of the work that comes with a newborn, to not have to help his recovering wife, and/or to cheat.
Love the body-language here! Meriam is standing square-shouldered and with her fist clenched, passively defiantly opposing Chris’ silhouette as it towers over her and the others. Seeing Shez being taller than her mother is a melancholy sort of thing, too… Can’t wait to see what happens next. Catharsis is coming soon, I just know it!
