    Shez looks so cool! Love the dramatic hairstyle change (and how it looks more shounen than ever) to go along with the training routine. I stg though I worry about her back ;_;
    Loving where this is going though! I wasn’t expecting the story to start focusing on fitness but I’m loving that it is, hoping we get more of this!

      As she got closer to her adult self I wanted her hair to resemble its current style. That was the thought process with pulling it off her face (other than practicality), because it shows of her hairline.
       
      I tried my best to show she’s lifting with her legs 😭🤣 but tbh same. I’ve buldged too many vertebral discs to be as gung-ho as Shez about lifting like that 😅😅

      Fitness ahead for sure, but as with the current shounen vibes, we’re going by shounen rules when it comes to buffness results 🤣🤣

    With all those squats Shez is doing lifting those heavy rocks her nut-kicks are gonna break the sound barrier! Honestly the rock would make a pretty good murder weapon, if Chris is gonna act like a wild animal then it’s only fitting he be put down like one. Just say it was a gardening accident 🙂

    Questiooon 🙋 I’ve seen frugal ppl do DIY stuff like small cement dumbbells or using bricks or an old/damaged car tire as weights before. In real life, how safe would it be to do the kind of thing Shez is doing as a workout?? Is this one of those “don’t try this at home kids” cartoon depictions?

    Also, out of all the CH12 pages released so far, which would you say is the one you like the most in terms of you it turned out?

      Oh yeah this is a “it looked cool, but do not try this at home, this onl works in the movies” type situation!
       
      I chose it less for realism and more to show:
       

      1) Shez’s determination/resourcefulness to use anything she has available if it means protecting her family.
       
      2) Her young age and the juvinile/naive logic that comes with it. She’s still only 13, nearly 14 here.
       
      3) Shounen power fantasy training montage but for women and girls. How many impossibly buff/strong teenage boys in anime are there now?
       
      Re: favourite page of ch12 so far, gosh. I’m honestly so happy with so many of them. Page 15 probably though, if I have to choose just one.

        Gotcha! though it probably will take a while until vol 3 is set, TBH i think this whole chapter is gonna look beautiful on print.
         

        Now with the explanation I think you did it on point! as a reader she does look resourceful and badass on first impression. I feel you sooo much on the power fantasy! Its partly why I love that Shez has muscles to show as an adult (also Jaden and Murph).

         

        Normally you look around character casts and its: The passive thin type gal isn’t buff because she is not inclined that way, wants to be cute or bc she’s sick and frail cuz bad luck. Okay.

         

        The cheeky seductive type isn’t buff because it’s ((allegedly)) not sexy and thus would not be effective for trickery.

         
        The agile svelte type isn’t buff because its not her style. The normie fit type isn’t buff because “Its not realistic for a woman” or some drivel about empowerment and ‘subversively embracing her femininity’.

         

        And the unnatural OP type isn’t buff because “her strength is magic/superhuman so it doesnt matter” Oh wow okay, awesome, BRB just gonna go pull out my temples and scream FFFF**** OFFFFF into the void…

         

        But Superman gets to be needlessly buff, and Hulk (why not just transform into a oh so subversive green twink?), and Cyclops, and Goku and the ice guy from Fairy Tail, and all those supernatural guys from Bleach, and the boys from Demon Slayer…

         

        Like, why female physical strength always have to be f***ing infrared or metaphorical you know??

         

        Like you give us actual space to fantasize AT ALL, which is more than can be said for most media out there. And then on top of it you add various crunchy layers to the characters for us to go absolute bonkernuts while chewing.
